My 2004 Lariat with 110,000 miles has a shudder feeling when I back up or go foward in low. This only happens when I first take off, as far as I can tell. Would this be transmission clutches slipping or rear end clutches slipping, or something else? What test can I do to isolate the problem?
Do you both have limited-slip? I had the same issue and there was an Update for shuddering and the packing was replaced in the limited-slip and problem was solved
It kinda felt like your hitting the rumble strips on the highway..
Yep, I got the trailer package which comes with limited slip. It has always felt like the rear end, but I couldn't tell. I wonder what it will cost to have it fixed, with 110K no warranty will apply?
I looked at my receipt from the dealer and mine was under warranty and it doesnt give prices. So i wouldnt know what it cost someone on here has paid cash for this job im sure. they would know. But i will put money on it, thats your problem.
A ford Tech also said to drain the Syntheic 75w-145 and add 80w90 NON syntheic and add 3 bottles of FORD additive. He said it will take care of it and he said IF it doesn't then you need to replace clutch packings. He said ONLY do this if you are out of warranty.. Mine is starting to do this again after 70k on the rebuild...
If you are out of warranty you may want to consider Detroit Truetrac Locker by Eaton. The part number should be 913A477, but check with a powertrain shop that sells them to verify part # for your truck. Auburn Gear makes a locking chunk that has a different type of set up also. Part #542090 should fit your truck. Price range from around $550 for the Auburn to $680 for the Detroit. The Detroit is not like the old locker they use to make. A few on the site have used the Detroit.
