Has anyone ever added a third row seat to a 2002-2005 Explorer that didn't come with one? Is it a bolt it or is it even possible without major fabrication? Looking at an '02 XLT with 136,000 miles, 4.6, trailer tow, leather, 6 disk changer, moonroof, etc. for $4000, but it doesn't have the third row seat. We need the third row seat and was wondering about adding one later from junk yard parts. The price is so good on this one that it would probably be worth it if it was possible. Hope someone could give some more info.
This has been asked more than once, but I've never read of anyone successfully doing it. Some things to consider: Is the rear floor pan the same (the storage areas and covers are different); the 2nd row seats are different (the outboard sections tumble forward for access to the rear); the rear vertical trim panels are also needed for the shoulder belts; can you find everything that's in good shape and also the correct color.
There were lotsa Gen III Explorers sold, so your chances of finding one with a 3rd row seat should be excellent. When you find one, tell 'em you're gonna have to offer less 'cause of the extra weight you don't want but will have to drag around.............
