There are a couple of aftermarket companies that make third row seats. I installed one from littlepassengerseats.com in my '92. I've also seen them advertised in JCwhitney catalogs.
Wow that is a bold and absolute statement. Are you saying there is no way possible to customize a vehicle to accept another set of seats? bulldog - sit down and give us some facts. I realize you are saying that the OEM never offered this...but that is not the answer the poster was looking for.
Mrshorty is right. I have seen 3 or 4 different aftermarket companies offering a rear facing bench seat for Explorers. If you are more than 4 feet tall, you will be a bit cramped.
Yes they are available.
Yes you can add a 3rd row it would be 39" its the seating for 91-2000. I also was looking into adding a 3rd row many say you have to pull up the carpet and add the brackets but my brackets are already there. If you decide to get them in stalled some companies don't like to add the the brackets to allow the seats to be removed check the under the carpet and see if the brackets are there already and install is easy but install range is from $100-200
I have the 98 Eddie Bauer I don't know if that makes a difference and the seats price new range from $500-700 Depends on how you customize them in my area (Houston,TX)
This is a 6 year old thread. The original question, will the late model third row fit in a '98 was answered--no, it won't.
There are small, rear-facing seats available. My BIL had one, but never installed it. I looked at it for my '98 but decided it was probably unsafe, and took up almost all the rear cargo area anyway.
