I want to go look at a 2008 Expedition EL/Max and possibly buy but what is all involved in adding a third row? Its a SSV, was a fire department truck so its just 5 seats. Is it possible to add a third row? Are the mounting holes or plates there? I've been trying to search but haven't found much info, I think I also heard that it has a storage box or something, would that interfer with the third row or make it not possible to add?
Thanks
Are you sure it doesn't have the third row? It is a fold flat seat and if there is a command console (likely what the box you are describing is) in the back it would be on top of it. It might be a big task if it isn't there because the seat belts are not integral to the seats, the upper mounts for them are on the D pillar. You would need a lot of parts to make it happen properly.
There is no third row, and sorry theres not a big box in it but I thought I read they make the SSV package ones with a storage compartment in the floor. So I would need to find a bench and seat belts?
More than that, you need all the attachments for the seat belts as well as the retractors, and if you want it to look correct you will need the trim panels for the D pillar. Likely any money you save by getting the SSV will be blown trying to get the third seat in. Might as well buy a nice XLT. SSV's can also be hit or miss depending on what type of agency used them. Some get beat up pretty badly.
