No, it will just help keep enough pressure feeding the injectors. Its recommended not to go over 70-75 psi at idle, I wouldn't go over 65 psi and mine idles at about 62.
Ford states that 75 psig and above puts the o-rings at risk. 65 psig is a good safe value. Definitely do not go past 70 psig IMO.
Hello,
I just stopped by the dealer.. and they don't have a part number for just the spring.
Of the two part numbers listed in a previous post.. one isn't for the truck and the other is $75.
4c4z-9t517-aa
or
3C3Z-9T517-AE
The 3C3Z-9T517-AE appears to be a valid kit number.. but the dealer couldn't tell if the spring was included.
The parts diagram didn't even show a spring.
I'd hate to spend $75 on the wrong stuff.
Does anyone know if you can get just the stock spring?
I'm not really interested in a 'performance' spring that increases the stock pressure almost 50%.
Thanks for the help!!
I think the $75 one is the full regulator kit, which includes all the internal components and a gasket. Why are you needing a new spring? If you've verified the pressure is low at idle, just add a BB between the brass cup and spring and it will boost it 8-10 psi.

I think I'm with Cartmanea on this. Heres my thinking- spend $30 on a case of adult beverages, and drink some of them while I'm putting in the BB. But thats just me.
A $30 spring is just retarded when a 1 cent BB does the same job.
what a great selling feature for e-bay!
only $19.99 ! and raise your fuel pressure today! but wait! order now and get two! for the price of one. (I can already hear the infomercial dude on this one.)
Really; Just take the regulator housing off the side of the filter bowl and you will see a spring that rests in a brass cup.
Drop the BB into the brass cup and put it back together. There are only four torx head screws that hold it on and you don't have to unhook the upper coolant hose or the return line to do this mod, it would just make more work.
Just put the BB in the brass cup that holds the spring and re-torque the cover.
BTW it a standard .177 cal.

The bb mod is a good one. I have two issues that I am "mulling over".
1. If I need warranty work, I do not want the dealership to find a bb in the regulator and I do not want to worry about removing it before taking it in. They may not have an issue with it, but the dealership that I have been going to seems to be changing with regards to their acceptance of aftermarket mods.
2. The duty cycle of the aftermarket spring is a lot higher than the OEM. Even w/ the bb, the spring continues to weaken over time. How much weaker - who knows. It is just something to think about.
Just a few more thoughts than a blanket statement .......
Side note - I have been told that the aftermarket GDS 6.0L spring should not cause the pressure to exceed the 75 psig upper limit, but I would personally not install it without a fuel pressure gauge. In fact, I think everyone needs a fuel pressure gauge as "standard issue".
I agree, with a warranty you don't want to have to worry about little things like that when you take it in. Luckily mine's been totaled once already, so my warranty was out the window before I bought it
question - how can starving for fuel NOT affect performance ?
seems like if you bounce the fp up, it should respond better... just wondering....
Can someone post pics for us underhood challenged types ?
of what you may know by this next question....
how do you open the hood ?
I pride myself on never having washed my Ex's much less any 'manual' labor
but am starting to do that stuff now....
(joking about the hood, but don't know where the modded part lives... passenger or driver side ? top or bottom ? (see ?)
