I recently purchased an '85 Mustang GT for $400 from a body shop, with the intentions of fixing it up a little and driving it. Soon it was very clear this was to be WAY over my head and budget. It has been sitting for the last 10 years with the windows down, and the interior, electrical system, brake system, almost everything is shot. It does however have a good 5.0 HO engine and T5 transmission. I have been thinking of swapping my 300 and C6 for the 5.0 and T5. The only problem i can think of is getting the clutch to operate correctly. Anyone heard of doing this swap, or performed one? any help would be appreciated.
F150Dude, I did the T5 swap. I used a Wildwood master and slave cylinder for the clutch and worked great. I still have them along with the braided line and would make you a deal on them. I had the T5 behind a 351w with out any issues. I am now in the process of doing a frame up restoration and have stroked the engine to a 408 and I had a hi-po AOD built. I have some pictures somewhere if I can find them.
It worked fine. It sat back about 2 inches further back than the original 4 speed overdrive shifter. I cut the floorpan to accomplish that. If you have short legs it might be a problem?
Hey thanks for the info. Let me know what you would take for that set up. If you could get the pics up that would be great. Been seriously thinking about just putting the T5 behind the 300 since it's still stout as an elephant. I do have short legs, but that is'nt a problem since i installed bucket seats out of an '89 'Stang. Now I pretty much sit on the floor with the seat slid all the way back. Lol
Don't want to upset anyone by selling an item outside of "classifieds". I put a picture of the set up in my gallery. PM me and we can talk particulars. I really wasn't trying to sell, but if I have no use for it anymore and can save you a bunch of money.
