5.0 Explorer slight engine mods
Ive been looking at a 2nd gen Explorer for my son and came across a 5.0 AWD model. I usually hang over in the 80-97 forums where most of the trucks are set up with the speed density EFI system and are usually not very accepting of any small engine mods.
But anyway, is the EFI system in these 5.0s very adaptable to say, a cam swap? Valve/lifter work? Thx in advance

I tried a bit more of a search but didn't hit an Explorer thread. Exhaust is the first step, and gearing is often mentioned.
Do you know if this engine is MAF or SD EFI? MAF accepts mods, SD is very limited.

Most of what I found here at FTE has to do with F150 302s. The upgrade for those wheezers is Explorer heads and roller cams. Since you are already there with the heads, then the Explorer motor upgrades go to Mustang parts. Since you are already at 205-215 HP, the Mustang stuff isn't going to do a lot, but then you are looking for slight mods.

Exhaust is a big restriction on those 5.0 Explorers. A company used to make headers for them but don't anymore, maybe check out eBay for a used set.
