hey finally got our 00 powerstroke going and less than a week later guess what it won't start. the dealership says its idm and wants 1000 to fix. it looks like i can get one for around 2-300 and was thinking bout fixing my self. looks fairly simple. is this an easy or difficult problem thanks
I'd find out for sure if thats your problem, dealers anymore like throwing parts out at yaa, and the list keeps growing if thats not it. What we need is some more info, does it crank, and dash lights, batteries good and connections good and clean exct?? Might be something real simple..
Hows all your fluids, water, oil levels expecially. When was the last time you changed it?? Any oil in your overfill(degass) bottle?? Any leaks, oil, water?? How about the fuel filter?? Could be you fuel bowl heater.
Your overfill on top of the rad, where you top off the coolant. Any blown fuses?? Guys that had their fuel bowl heaters go out report a number #30 fuse or a 30 amp fuse blows out, if that happens, your truck won't start.
Hey the dealer also said my IDM was no good. It turns out after i replaced the cps, fuel pump, checked everything as far as connections and all and hpop stuff. Well i pulled the inner fender and it was indeed the idm. The little plug on the side was off and water had gotton in the idm and started shorting everything out. So if you can check and see if that plug fell out if it did odds are your idm is bad. some symptoms are rough idle. starting then stalling. or just not starting at all.
Thanks my 2cents hope it helps and by the way the dealer quoted me for 1400 dollars and i fixed it for 169 dollars..... be carefull with the dealer
