I have a 78 F250 4X4. I started fixing alot of little problems I was having with my truck, which include a gas leak. I thought the leak was just a old filler line, BUT when i dropped the tank I found a lagre crack in the tank itself (side mount tank). I have been trying to find a replacment tank but no-one seems to have one that will fit if the original stock tank was O.E. Plastic. CAN ANYONE POINT ME IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION TO FIND ONE.
Hey Lee,
Until you find another tank you can buy a kit of
fuel tank repair. It's a 2 part epoxy that does a real good job of stopping leaks.
I wasn't sure about it myself until I tried it. If you try it be sure to clean the surface real good and follow the instructions.
Good Luck!
After looking through my catalogs, it seems that your year in 4x4 poses a problem for finding a side tank. If you desire is to have more fuel capacity, have you considered getting a 33gallon rear tank and putting your spare tire somewhere else? I'm assumming you have a main tank behind the rear end. I have a side tank from a 69 2wd that I removed to get at broken brake lines. It is still lying in the yard.
hey lee,if you use willie's idea make sure your tank and the epoxy are warm.other wise it won't work at all.also don't work the epoxy very long . it gets so hard you could drill it and tap it .oleblue=
Lee, are you saying you have a plastic front tank in your truck? You might try calling National Automotive Lines. Inc 1-800-428-4300 they have a lot of replacement gas tanks, they might have one to fit your truck. Have you tried LMC TRUCK 1-800-222-5664 ? They have stuff for Fords and other vehicles.

What I did on mine was to clean the seam with carb cleaner, then lay on glass cloth and resin. If you clean it right it is fuelproof and won't leak.
