Changed coolant filter. Interesting find.

Be aware that if you have any leakage of combustion gasses in the coolant, it can cause silicates to precipitate out. Also, excessive temperatures (from low flow, or clogged radiator air side, etc) could cause the same thing. It is said that casting sand can continue to "slough off" over long periods of time. I am not sure one way or the other, but I do know that the filter is good insurance at any time - as many others have stated.
