The motorcraft filter will cost you more then twice what you can buy them for at dieselfilters, there made by NTZ and around $12 each. You only lose about a cup of fluid when changing.
Dealers do not change the ext. filter during a hot flush unless requested by the customer. Trust me, it's a lot cheaper to order the NTZ and do it yourself. In fact I change the ext. filter every other oil change. Cheap ins. in my op.

The NTZ filter also comes with a new o-ring. The Ford one does not.
Just a quick question: I use only Motorcraft or Racor fuel and oil filters but was looking at the NAPA Gold pleated filter that they sell for my transmission. Any thoughts on using this?
thats why I only recomend OEM ,(for this filter sensitive application , I can't guarante an aftermarket is exactly the same ,, ps I think the transmission filter comes with an oring now
I personally would stick with OEM on this truck. Draw your own conclusions however. Many headaches attributed to a/m filters.
yeah, i had long start / cranking problems last summer... the culprit was a after market oil filter according to the Ford Techs. they said it was slightly shorter letting oil drain out of the oil filter housing. put a motorcraft filter in and problem solved.
but this spring i had VERY long crank over / long start issues, that was a cracked o-ring on the HPO system / oil rail.
NTZ designed the filter housing and makes the external filter for the tranny and supplies them to Ford/Motorcraft. Sooooooo, NTZ is the OEM for the external tranny filter.
Look at post #5. You are reading and not listening.
well, the only thing i can figure you are referring to is the price.
yes, i know i could have ordered it for cheaper. my free time is very minimal right now, and when i get a few minutes to do maintenance it better be RIGHT THEN or it doesnt get done. i own a small business and right now is my season.
so if i have to spend a few bucks more to get one locally and do it when i can, i gotta spend a few bucks more to make sure it gets done.
I don't mind throwing the dealer some extra $$ either they have it in stock and I get the owners advantage rewards every now and then even though I didn't buy new
