Front end Radiator support frame

Changed my front bumper on the weekend on my 91 F350 after a 2 year search for a new bumper, I finally found one in perfect condition off a Bronco.

However once I got the old one off I noticed the frame that supports the radiator and fenders is heavily rusted out especially as it flares out to the fenders from where it bolts to the trucks main frame.

The radiator support frame is supported off the main truck frame in two places and also seems to support some of the fenders covers.

Has anyone changed this frame recently. Is it an all bolted frame or is there welding involved to change it out.

What needs to be removed to change out? Fenders, Grill, Radiator, etc..

Happy New Year.

Sebastian.

The two bolts holding it to the frame are usually a bear even when there is no rust.
I would start spraying them with penetrating oil now every once in awhile now if you are going to change it in the near future.

Front End Frame

Thanks guys, I kind of figured this would be a bit of a job to get it done.

Well I will plan it for some time in the next 12-18 month, I am sure it will hold together till then.

Pricing for a new member does not look too bad.

Thanks again for the link.

Sebastian.

And you better plan on replacing the mount rubber bushings, both sides upper and lower since I bet they will not be re useable when you get it apart.

Ten Four Dave, I won't bother with the penetrating oil. This is a job for a blow torch.

I torched off the old bumper bolts.

For some reason this truck has a lot of corrosion on the front end. I thought I was done with the bumper but after I had it off there is a lot more to go and the radiator support frame is the main piece that needs replacing.

Keep an eye on it as if it moves to much it can break your radiator. That is the main reason these trucks got junked not rust but the 87 up core supports just broke and self destructed and a lot af farmers and ranchers junked them when the radiator would break,
many of them under 100,000 miles.

Thanks, I will keep my eye on it. The left mount does look like it is ready to go in the next year or so, not much metal left....

Last I checked on these supports they were no longer available. I thought I found one through lmc truck but they sent me a gasser support. When I called them they told me that they couldn't get the diesel ones anymore. Most places don't even know there is a difference in them so they may say they have it and send you one for a gasser.
