The otherday I was driving my truck, 1989 Ford F-450, then out of nowhere it just started missing like crazy. Looked behind me and it was white smoking like crazy.... I was thinking an injector was bad.... Get out today and check the injectors (cracking the fuel lines while its running) and find the on I thought was bad.... Had some good USED ones laying around so I put one in it but still missing. Cracked the line. No change. Tried another injector same thing....... ANY IDEAS?
It smells like a fuel smoke.... It does it all the time and idles really rough... The thing starts up fine but idles rough as a cob and misses and smokes really bad when you drive it
sounds like the IP but how is the timing, how old is it, how old are the injectors and did you change anything in the past week like additives or fuel?
You may want to get a bottle of diesel kleen and remove the fuel filter, empty the diesel out into a clear container. Fill the filter with the diesel kleen then reinstall, start the truck and let it run for about 15-20 seconds, then shut it off. Let it sit for about two hours and then take it out for a run. It has cured more problems than i can list. Try that first but let us know about the other stuff above as well.
Good possibility it is either a bad injector or a valve not closing due to worn guide. I would say the suggestion to check valve train operation is pertinent.
If you remove the valve rocker... push the valve(s) one at a time down 1/4 inch and try to wiggle them...... any significant movement is a warning guides are worn. If the wear is too bad the valve can stay open and operate like the one in the info below.
let the motor run for about 5-10 minutes and then shut it down and feel the injector lines at the injector and see if any are hotter then the others,if you find one that is you have found the culprit injector.i just went through this with mine and let me tell you it was obvious
Well today after I pulled tha valve cover I discovered my problem... A bolt had backed out of the rocker arm on a intake valve and it wasnt letting the pushrod contact the rocker to open the valve. I tightened it back down, buttoned it all up and it runs like a top......
Thanks guys for all the input,

yep thats exactly what i thought it was till i read down and you already found the problem, i know on injector not seating is not enough to make that one run that bad and smoke that bad, cause i got atleast on injector hung open right now and it has a slight miss and is dumping fuel in the engine i have a slight trail of blue smoke all the time now, and it burns my eyes and throat when i breathe it, so im going to pull the injectors send them to the injector guy and get him to fix them and re set my pop pressure to around 2300 instead of 1850

wont setting the pop pressure that high make your ip go bye bye?
