Maybe parking the truck in a spot that a wrecker can't get to it. Even parking side ways in the driveway might help. I have been thinking about this and it pisses me off. You have pretty much the same truck as I have and you also bought your truck new. I feel for you.
What you need is a real GPS tracking device. One that is used commercially on fleet vehicles. And shop around, prices and coverage vary GREATLY.
But with a real GPS tracker, you can log into thier site and track your vehicle every 10-15 seconds. You can also set it up to alert you if certain things happen. For example, the truck is moving yet the IGN is not on which would have helped you out greatly. You can have this alert sent to email or as a text or even some will call you.
Monthly prices can vary like I said but some can be had for as low $30 a month and you do get an INS deduction for having one.
I have a device on my truck as well as an alarm. I also have it setup so that if the alarm goes off, it will trigger the GPS unit to call, test, email you. They even make battery backups for them in the event that they disconnect your batteries under the hood. You can also have other features such as it unlock or lock your doors, or activate a second more stealthy starter kill or fuel pump kill.
Aside from a traking device, turing your wheels all the way in one direction will be a nightmare to tow anywhere.
Good luck with the INS man, this really really sux.
Great advice Techman. I will definitely be looking in to that. I'm still dealing with the insurance company. They started at $17,946 on last friday. I got them to forget about using the CCC Information Systems comps that they were using and they offered me NADA retail of $19,723. Today I sent them two comps from local dealerships that were very similar to my truck except 2WD. They were asking $26,000 for both of them. If I can get them to $21,000 I believe I will take it. I know I am pushing them to their limit by the way the Adjuster has talked to me, but with these new comps from in my state I'm hoping they will comply with my number and not want me to hire an independent appraiser.
Your welcome. Been thinking about getting one. I figure that I can put it on my truck and when my daughter goes out somewhere I can take it off the truck and put it on her.
I've heard from a repossessor that big cable is better than big chain. It's easier to break a link on a chain than it is to break every strand of a big cable.
Try taking a pair of bolt cutters to a cable. All you'll do to most any cable you try is deform it and cut a few strands. You won't get all the way through it very easily.
At least that's how he put it. The guy who suggested getting an expert thief was on the right track. Just get an experienced repossessor they are performing the same tasks as a thief they just have a legal right to do so.
Oh, I called Lo-jack, it is not available in my area either (El Paso, TX). Maybe someone can start a new thread on anti-theft ideas, like kill switches, GPS systems, jimmy jammers, etc. There must be a more effective way to prevent theft.
Here is an off idea for theft. it would be a GPS system I was thinking my Iphone can be tracked by its GPS. now all you have to do on it is install the APP for it. all you would have to do is give it a constante souce of power and as long as there is a Cell tower you would know where it is. and it would have to be hidden.
Haha! Nice, not a bad idea though, I'm sure something could be rigged that was much much cheaper
Honestly it would be pretty cheap how much is Lo-jack? $695 one time cost.
iPhone 200 dollars.
I already have the service so i just add a line which is 9.99 im not gonna be using any talking on it.
9.99 at 4 years is 479.52 total of 679.52
so it is cheaper up to 4 years I dont know if LoJack has fees either. Just a little off hand thinking. Plus you will Always have an iPhone in your vehicle. which has many many other uses.
