starting problems

starting problems

ive been having problems starting my 86 f350 i know that it has been cold at my house at night (subzero at nights) but ive had to charge the battery to start it the other day. and today it was rough starting. any suggestions?

I suggest pluggin in the Block heater when it gets that cold if its an option.

it would crank for a minute then have like a low rumble then come to life and the other day i had it plugged in over night and we had to charge the battery but once we did that it started rite up cld it be a low battery

First thing I would do is have the batteries checked and load tested. Eliminate the easy before troubleshooting the more difficult stuff.

I notice you say BATTERY as in one....... you need 2, minimum CCA 850 each new in pairs when replaced.

yeah start small, load tests can usually be free, you can test GP's free etc etc. Even a brand new F350 is supposed to be plugged in at anything under -5 to -10 F. Dont think it is bullet proof when it comes to those conditions, give it a break and plug it in if you can. Mine will snap to life within a revolution at anything above 16 F but that is all i have been able to test. I still plugged it in on a timer to warm 2 hours prior to my departure. that is cheaper than a starter or batts in my book.

how many cold cranking amps are the batteries rated for?you need atleast 850cca per battery for cold weather.with hard starting you can have glowplug ,battery,starter,return line,fuel line,or electrical connection issues
