OK, I do most of my driving around town which is semi rural, but I rarely see MPH over 45. That being said I have an 08' F350 supercab 4x4 with a 3.73 rear and 35" oversized tires. I have been hand calculating my MPG's and I see a consistant 11-11.5 MPG ratio. Is this expected with the setup I have?? I drive normally and once in a while get on it. I have been reading other threads and see you guys saying you get 13-14 city, and I wonder if my truck has an issue?? I welcome some feedback to see what others are seeing based on similar driving conditions. I love my baby, but I worry about it constantly.
I wouldn't be too worried, that sounds perfectly normal to me. Some guys claim 13-14 MPG stock city driving but if you look into it further there are more guys that claim 11-12 in the city and 14-15 highway. Continue to love your truck and try not to let the MPG bother you.
Brandon D, I am so f-ing close to to jumping on the Spartan wagon for two reasons, 1. better mileage 2. Better running truck. I had my 05' 6.0 diesel spartanized, whats your take on the spartan setup for the 6.4?
I am an avid supporter of the Spartan setup. I will fully admit it is not for everyone and I DO NOT recommend it to anyone that wouldn't be comfortable with possibly having their warranty void. If you are ok with that simple fact then it is easily the best money I have ever spent on a vehicle, hands down. My truck performs as it should have from day 1 and I saw a nice improvement in MPG, so you win all the way around. I will tell you the same as everyone else and that is to do the research and decide if it's right for you. There are lots of posts in this forum on that very subject. Best of luck to you and if you do decide to go ahead with it and need any extra help or advice, just send me a pm.
Cheers
Sorry but I've never driven a 6.0 so I can't comment on the difference. I can tell you that a tuned 6.4 is an impressive unit. Hopefully someone that has driven both can chime in here and give you some help.
Reave1, your mileage sounds very similar to what I normally get. The only time mine will do above 13 is with lots of time on the freeway doing no more than 65 MPH.
It's thirsty, but it does what I need it to. Whenever I get tired of 12 MPGs, I just drive my wife's Honda around!
I drove about 150 miles last Saturday unloaded, empty and I was going 45-60 mph on two lane highways. Lie-o-meter said 17.8 for the trip. These were ideal conditions and 55mph two lane highways with no traffic.
Hand calc did not happen because I only went 150 miles. Normally I get 12-13 driving around town empty. 8-10 with trailers.
Your numbers sound right. If you go for an extended drive at 60 mph you will see mpg go up.
I am also very close to getting the Spartan set up. When I do, there will be info on FTE from me giving the low down on the before and after. Might be a month or two though.
I am averaging the high 14 mpg's. i drive 16 miles from home to town @ 55-60 mph then some city driving. when i drive strickly in the city, about 10-11 mpg. on the highway i get about 16. if i set the cruise control on 55 with the tires @ 70 psi i can average 19mpg. all this is done with a stock 08, 6.4 wit 3:73 gears and empty, no trailer. when i haul my 1 ton military truck that weighs 8700lbs on a 18' tandom trailer, or my old 43 international tracter with a bushhog i get about 7-8 mpg. plain and simple, all the super duty line of trucks are great lookin work trucks, but thats just it, they are Work TRUCKS. we have to pay the price with fuel to look good driving the trucks we love..
Whew!! I feel much better. I was beginnning to think I was an exception. No I see most of you get the same. I second the fact that we all pay extra to look damn good in a great truck!!
I drive 50 miles round trip to work everyday in mine (stock '08 F350 CC 4X4 3.73 rear end). I get just a tad over 14. My commute is about 20 miles freeway (each way), and the rest surface streets with lights, turns, etc. I drove from San Antonio to Corpus Christi unloaded (mostly) last summer, and LOM showed about 16-17. All other long trips, and it's had a trailer of some sort behind it. I drove from SA to Marble Falls last spring into a 30-40 mph headwind doing 70 and it only got 8....but, I got to the ATV race meeting on time...
Hmmmm. I am in the 13/14 mpg city driving group at least my city driving which is really no city driving at all. this is a semi rural area both here in Florida where we winter and in Ohio where the stick house is. In My "City" at home I can run 4 miles all the way through the city during the day, and catch all the lights at 35mph. We are really near no city here in florida and I can run 45/55 mph most everywhere I choose to drive.
it really depends on your "City" and how you drive... Don't think I would do very well in Chicago or LA city driving..
I get 11.5-12.5 city. 14-15 mostly highway with just a little city. Up to 17.5 all highway at 65-70. Any city will drop that to 15 real quick. 3.55 gears w/auto.
