6.4 Liter

Gentleman,

I am thinking of taking the plunge and actually buying a newer vehicle.
2008 F-250 with the 6.4 with an SCT and DPF. I am unfamiliar with the 6.4L and am asking your opinions of the motor and its' dependability. In addition, it still has a 100,000 warranty which is obviously voided with
an SCT and DPF on the truck. I am curious if any of you guys had this modification to your truck and had to take it in to the dealer for work, what did you do? If you took the mods off, can the dealer take note that you have been using a programmer and DPF? How long does it take to put the original DPF back in?

Thanks for all the help

Engine and trans are very stout and will hold up to the SCT and Spartan tunes quite nicely. As for your warranty, most people just revert back to the stock configuration before getting any warranty work done to avoid the issue/hassle with voiding the warranty.

Jury is out on whether they can truly be detected when reverted back to stock. Some people swear they can't but various Ford techs that frequent the boards say otherwise. Who's to say?

It takes about 15 minutes to flash back to stock and about 45-60 minutes to switch out the DPF once your familiar with the tools and process. First time out may take you longer.

Just my opinion here, but I would NEVER buy a truck that's been tuned or modified in such a manner. There's a good chance this mod was done for MPGs and never driven hard, but there's an even better chance it was driven pretty hard.

Tuned engines, when beaten on, can have very expensive failures. If a dealer discovers that it was caused by a tuner they likely will not cover it, leaving you with a very expensive repair bill. A full engine replacement on these trucks costs $14,000 or more.

Now I wouldn't think twice about a stock truck...but one that's been tuned very well could be a time bomb!

I agree totally with Tom, if someone has tuned this truck and then deleted the dpf, and are now wanting to sell it, chances are somethings gone wrong with it, i.e. some other type of failure that they cant get because the tuner voided their warranty. DPF delete kits and tuners are NOT cheap, and if someone invested that kind of money and now wants to get rid of it I would think something sounds fishy. Get an OASIS report on it and see, but personally I would steer clear. Just my 2 cents

My 2 cents says run and find another truck. Why should you gamble with your money? Not good odds in my opinion. Do you like to play Russian Roulette? That's what you will be doing!

Ya I agree with everyone... find a different truck, and then do what that guy did to it!

I also agree with the panel, When you spend the money to tune your truck, then decide to sell it, chances are it started to have issues from getting beat on. Tuning your truck needs to be respected and understood. If it were me, I would buy an unmolested truck so you can guarentee it will be taken care of well. Do not buy the truck!!
