Just alittle enertaining info... In 1999 the window sticker on a new Expedition read epa rated 13 city 17 hwy ok but whats hwy. I wish the Expys came with instant mpg and not avg 2 others cars have it a lincoln and a mercury but why not ford? But if you reset your overhead it will give you a sort of instant avg mpg. So while driving down a 30 miles scretch of hwy I got a idea to write down avg at a select speed to see what it would read (ok I was bored nothing on radio) now I reset the overhead each time and let it level out plus had cruise control set at each speed, straight road, no wind and no traffic and heres the results I got.....
MPG Speed
17.1 55
16.5 60
15.3 65
14.4 70
btw I driving a 1999 EB 4X4 5.4 3.73 w/ 285/7017s at 39 PSI
My drivetrain is set up for towing and off road use now being said what if I had a 2wd 5.4 with maybe 3.55 or 3.33 well than hwy mpg would be much higher than mine Im lucky to do 11 12 around town and 14 15 if lucky on hwy so lets just face it this truck just doesnt get good gas milage and really its not made to, its big, heavy and has a areo package of a brick!!! But hope this entertaining and alittle info well maybe you could use so moral of story is set it at 55 GOD pls dont stop for anything and youll get 17 + mpg
I have a 99 Eddie Bauer and my has an AVG and when you select Mode you get the Instant MPG....I have the 2WD and I still only get about 17 on the highway at 60MPH and it goes steadily downhill the faster you go....
The overhead computer is very innacurate. If you really want to know what your mileage is, you will need to go and actually calculate miles driven by gallons of fuel consumed.

Everytime I've checked mine by manually calculating it, it's been dead-on accurate. But then I reset mine for every tank of gas.
pitrow...I can show digital pics of my trip computer info if needed...
1st push of button = Compass
2nd push of button = Miles to empty
3rd push of button = AVG miles per gallon
4th push of button = instant miles per gallon
I know overhead is not accurrate but its a avg only thing I was doing is resetting the overhead to see at what speed on hwy will give me the best mpg I avg 12 to 14 depending on driving per tank Ive done the math but if you look at the numbers 55 -60 drop only .5 mpg but dropped 1.2 from 60 - 65 it was just a little interest thing I did and thought I would share... btw just check mine again no instant mpg on mine wonder how you got yours there both 99's EB?

huh... that's cool. I tried mine again last night and it's pretty much the same as yours, except substitute OFF for the instant mpg in your 4th push. Maybe it's 'cause mine is a canadian model? I know of a couple other differences because of that and maybe this is just one more.
I looked at a 2005 Expedition Eddie Bauer. It also doesn't have it. It also to me has lost some of the class it had. No real distiction anymore between the Eddie Bauer and the XLT.
