Hi,
I'm contemplating converting my 92 F-150 to 4wd (see post in Offroad and 4x4). My truck has the 300 I6 and the Mazda 5-speed. The gears are -I believe- 3.11:1 (changed by previous owner; I have the original 2.73 set) and the tires are 30-10.5/15 all terrain. Right now I'm getting around 17 mpg highway and 13 city if I drive like I've got good sense. All other things being equal, what kind of mileage can I expect from my truck if I went 4wd?
Im comparing my 2WD to a buddy of mine who has an identical truck except it is 4WD and his runs 2-3 MPG less than mine. Same engine and tranny and gears.
:-) Thanks, that's just the sort of information I'm looking for. Anyone else have any comparisons with 2wd and 4wd trucks? Also, if anyone has a 4wd with an EFI 300 I6 w/ a 5 speed, what kind of mileage are you actually getting?
I get 14 or 15 City , 16 or 17 Hwy . If I see it drops off somewhat that means its usually time for new spark plugs . Thats on a 90 F150 , 4.9L 4X4 , M5OD , 3.08 & 31.10.50 15 In tires , 183K miles .
i have a 95 f-150 4x4 300 inline 6, mazda 5 speed, 3.08 gears, and 235/75/15 bf commercial tires. i was getting 14.5 mpg with timing set at 8 degrees BTDC, advanced timing to 14 degrees BTDC and set tire pressure to 35 i get around 16.5 to 17 mpg. alot of my driving is highway at 70mph so it might be better mileage at 55 to 60 mph. maybe not much better. but a little.
I drive from southern WV to Cleveland, OH several times a year and I see a lot of fluctuation in my gas mileage. In WV I consistently get 15.2 mpg in town or on the highway. On the interstate doing 60-70 mph I get an average of about 16 mpg. Driving in Cleveland which is almost all stop and go I get anywhere from 9 to 11 mpg. This is with 3.73's and 33" tires and I keep my foot out of the gas, I rarely rev her past 3000 rpm. Just a quick note, I have re-calibrated my speedometer so these numbers should be close to correct.
