Laurie, I just made mine out of wood and a few pices of steel. I bought the plans for $15 for a buddy and me. He hasn't started his yet. Ice Boat Plans
I like it 'cause it's nice, simple, light, and fiarly cheap. Cost me about $125 so far. If something breaks, I can just go to the lumber store and replace it. I'll try to get the wife to email me some pics so I can post them.

The rear beam is a 2x6, but I thought the same thing. I'm just building the single, but when I build my next one, it'll be the double. And I think I'll brace the rear beam a bit more.
