progress update on the bed make over.

before

where it sits at the moment... hopefully can get the
bed test fit tomorrow. then cleaned up and primed.

grafted a 98 or so dodge ram floor into the floor...
the welds are still rough.. going to work on cleaning those up.

the rear cross member is 1/8 2x4 square tubing... we kept the
original bed mounting bracket and welded it to this piece...

the old one was rotted out completely.

We were able to save all of the original cross members and weld them up and fix them back to normal.

Looks good. I don't have the ability to weld...however got lucky and found a guy that had a trailer made out of a 64 bed that was in perfect condition. Putting my "crap" bed on it to try to resell.

im surprised no one picked out the ****** delivery in the background

neat old ride... Its got a mustang 2 front end under it.

Thanks for the compliments... Im glad to see it shaping up, Ive been bedless for about 10 months now.

The shop is a friend of mines, he is a shop teacher at the local H.S. they have an award winning group of kids there... I forget the placement but it was in the top few in the nation at skills usa.

anyway, got lucky to have the facilities.. and the help.

The truck will be going in for a make over after the new year.

Cant determine what color to paint it, Im wanting to do a metallic version
of a classic factory paint job...

something to this effect.

I've got in mind Radir Tri Rib wheels or Cragar street pro painted centers.

radir

street pro with mag center.

Im into the 60s traditional hot rod style...

The interior is going to be basically stock with the rubber floor.. but I robbed a seat out of a
89 chevy pu and mounted it up.. looks great in the cab... but im going to put a vinyl cover on it
and from stock they have a wide pleat, piping, and a classic border around the out side.

factory vinyl will run me 150 bucks...the seat 50... and its way more comfy on my 240 pd 6'6 frame
than the factory.

Unbelieveable job on the bed, talk about making a silk purse out of a sow's ear, looking good.

Like your selection of rims, IMO either would look great. For info purposes, if already installed, or considering, front disc upgrade make sure if the rim has a recessed flange that it will fit the larger hub. Purchased a set of American Racing Mags, Torque Trust ll, and ended up having to the rims turned to fit the hub. Anyhow, bookmarking thread for future referernce, intend repairing bed on 65 bed 'when time permits' oh ya. Keep up posted if time permits.

Nice job - I am planning the same thing as soon as I find the donor dodge. Found a perfect shortbed, smashed on the side, but it was a 2006 and was too short on the width and length.

post more detailed pics please!

Got the Bed mounted today...

we took 1/2 all thread and welded it to the original feet on the bed... as opposed to carriage bolts coming through the bed...( drilled out the stock holes to 3/4) and worked out a few more dents.. and welded a few cracks.

pretty good fit so far... may need to adjust the passenger side a bit.

looks great; going to be an awesome two tone; can't wait or afford right now to redue my 65 (in gallery) to a more high output level as well.

I'll have to make sure I remember that... I do have disc installed.
The cragars are a out of the box item like tt2's
The Radirs as I understand it are custom to order.
They dont make them till they are ordered or something.
I've heard it can take as long as 6 weeks to get a set... they are cool..
dont know if im that patient or not ! lol.
