I just bought a used 2006 F150 XLT 5.4L 4X4 bla bla
now I want to add a cat back exhaust but my last vehicle was a Land Rover Discovery and I dont want a loud exhaust so which is the quietest exhaust system out there, I did a search on the forums but didnt find anything definite
and looked on youtube for vids of f150s with catbak sustems from
different companies.
Next up what is the best all around air intake system
I got it down to K&N, Airaid or AFE any input?
i would say for kit exhaust magniflow will be the quietest
and i would skip a air intake and just get a afe dry flow air filter and at the most look up the mod to doctor up the factory intake...i forget what they called it for usring the seach button
Don't waste your $ on either one if you want more power and better fuel economy. Start out with a good programmer with custom tunes such as an SCT x3 for around $400. That'll give you the best value.
I agree with Greg- I went with a edge and volant CAI, but I got more from the computer. If I had to do it again, I would have gotten the Gyphon (sp?), but if you search this thread, there has been several threads on it. Stay away from k&N, over time, you'll end up havintg issues with your MAF sensor. When I ran my CAI and edge, I saw a 2mpg improvement.
Our 07 FX4 5.4 had a SI/DO cat back system with a Flowmaster 40 and two pipes out the back, and it droned awful at part throttle and popped some in town. I couldn't have that. The Flowmaster is simply a lightly baffled chamber, no packing to absorb sound waves. The Magnaflows had packing. So I compromised.
I went to the car parts store and purchased a "glass pack" straight through muffler which has the packing and perforated core to absorb those sound waves too, simple bolt in place. I wrote it up in this thread.
Also, while I didn't develope sound clips, "tylus" did include some of the Magnaflow in that thread, and listening to them .... sounds an awful lot like what I have now.
