Black molded cab steps

I recently ordered my 2007 F350 SRW CC FX4 bla bla bla.

I ordered the Black molded cab steps thinking that these were basically factory nerf bars or very similar.

I just noticed on the Ford Direct website that when you are "Building a Vehicle" on the site, you can click on option details icon and usually get a picture along with a description of the particular option.

Well, when I click on details beside the "Black Molded Cab Steps" option, I get a picture that looks like the plastic door jam step inside of the truck, and not the running board/ nerf bar style steps I was thinking they were.

My question is, am I looking at the picture wrong or did I just order a truck with no step outside the cab?

Thanks in advance

I have wondered that same thing DoorKicker. I thought the black running board type things on my 99 were called black molded cab steps but the picture on Ford.com looks like the sill plate. BTW, those cab steps on my 99 have kept the paint on the lower doors and cab flawless after 7.5 years. I would definitely want them again.

well I hope that is what I am getting cause they are exactly what I want. I like them much better than the tubular steps.

So you're saying you tried ordering regular black moulded running boards? But the picture is showing the sill plate or kick plate as it's sometimes called? Let us know how it turns out.

btw, Nerf bars refer to the "tubular" steps, usually chrome, and there's a gap between the truck and the step, as opposed to running boards like on my truck or Captchas'

the plastic steps are std epq. the metal bars are a option maybe thats why it shows the sill plate covers as a option. those cover the painted part of the door bottom area from squffing the painted area of the door way

At this point all I know is that I ordered what ford called
"Molded Black Cab Steps" option code 18L. $370
The order is in and I don't think I can change it so I guess I'll just wait and see.

If there are no running boards/steps when I get it, I guess I'll just buy some from the dealer it gets delivered to.
If anybody knows for sure what 18L is It would be great to know.

Have no fear. I ordered the exact same option on my '06 F350, molded plastic cab steps, and they are black running boards.

Thanks for the conformation. I was trying not to worry about it but it was just bugging me cause there is really nothing I can do at this point.

I feel better now. 12 more months and I get to drive the beauty....

doorkicker, 12 months?????? i was just at my dealership looking to order an 07 and they said 4-6 weeks, not 1 year....if it was a 12 wait, you would be ordering an 08. there are tons of 07's on the lots around my area.

I specifically wanted an 07 model but I am going to be in Iraq until August of 2007 this time next year. I looked into useing a regular dealer but they couldn't hold my truck that long and wanted me to pay for it and just let it sit on thier lot until I returned.

The military has a special service for deployed members that allows me to order direct from Ford and have my truck built and then stay at the factory until my specific delivery date, which in my case is 12 months away when I return from Iraq.

Belive me, I wish I was just waiting 4-6 weeks. Both for my truck and for comming home....

ok, thats clear now. but on a value stand piont, wouldn't it be better if you got an 08. i mean, you will be getting an 07 that will be a year old about 1 month after you get it. anyway, hope all is well on your mission. stay safe. prayers are with you. thanks for making our country such a great place.

Well I thought about that too, but with all the unknowns about the new 6.4 and the increase in price as well, I really wanted an 07.

The age of the truck will be based off the placed in service date which will be Aug 07, and that is when the warrenty starts too.

It may not be the perfect way to buy a truck, but it is my way of making the best of a crappy situation.

Smile cab steps

06 250 SD 250 4X4 V10 I have the cab steps black molded in Fords specs they are nice. My thoughts I would not have the tubular steps. The order number for the cab steps is 18L on my truck order form. Get the Ford molded front mud flaps for your truck and they keep mud off your running boards a good system
I would not go with the tubular bar step for mud and all the other things that I have seen up on that type of steps.
