I don't believe that all that's got anything to do with the Raptor at all.
You have postulated the following theory:
Truck is marketed touting it's off-road ability + person buying it will be inexperienced and overly confident = certain death, destruction, mayhem and plenty of collateral damage
I was merely stating that there are many of us who off-road responsibly and don't always push our vehicles to their limits and test the laws of physics.
The truck is what it is, an off-road capable vehicle straight from the assembly line with a full warranty. There are plenty of people out there who will buy this who will be responsible and may never leave the pavement with it (like so many other 4x4s out there). There are others that will buy it and trash it and themselves. That's the fact of life. If you don't agree with the advertising, don't buy one. I'm sure that one less unit sold will really send Ford a message...
So maybe we should talk Ford into shutting down the SVT progarm, to save people from buying, um , the GT500. I mean dang, the news is full of kids crashing there Honda Civic's in street racing! I've been to Glamis, Baja, up and down the Nevada state line chasing race trucks and such, and the biggest thing I see "Dangerous" is people driving beyond there skill. You can finance anything, but you can't finance common sense. If these trucks are to much for you, I heard there's a sale on HYbrid's....
I think that the problem is with people in iteslf. Its not a Ford Raptor that is going to make them go to the dunes. If it wasn't for the new Raptor, they would be doing it in a different truck (or car depending on how stupid) that is not as safe, and not as prepared for that kind of abuse.
We can also argue Darwinism as well. Maybe we should get a bunch of off road trucks, and have stupid people kill themselves to remove their genes from the gene pool.
The same problem exists for all manufacturers. Toyota has to worry about people building a giant see-saw and driving a Tundra across it or driving at high speed right to the end of a cliff and braking just in time. Dodge has to worry about guys driving through obstacle courses where the truck will be hit with swinging logs and fire. Ford has to worry about blind people driving Mustangs at high speeds. And these are just a few. Many disclaimers out there as well warning people that the events are on a closed course with professional drivers.
It's not just the Raptor, it's all vehicles that are manufactured and marketed to the masses. It's marketing. Happens everyday from the shampoo you use to the food you put on the table. And if there's a way and a will to sue or claim something was faulty or defective, some toehead is going to try to do it just to get something for nothing.
When we were first buying the M1 Abrams MBT, Chrysler had commercials of it jumping, etc. wanna guess what came next?
yep, the Army asked Chrysler to ditch the commercial - our drivers were jumping M1's every chance they got, which was heck on the torsion bars and occasionally on other things... like the guy in the top hatch when the whole thing rolled... oops! sucks to be him!
