chrome grille

Hi everyone,

I posted up here awhile ago looking for advice on buying a new to me truck, and ended up buying one so wanted to first of all thank everyone for their advice.

Anyway, come to the point, I bought a 2008 F-250 CC w/ the diesel and chrome package and such. I drove the hell out of the thing so it is past the 36,000 mile warranty mark. Today, while I was washing it, I noticed that the chrome on the grill is already starting to "bubble up". It's not peeling or anything, it just looks like it is "bubbling up" and seperating from the bumper.

I'm amazed that it would be happening this quickly. I was wondering if the cold or salt could have anything to do with it? I really hope not because I had a Grand Cherokee w/ a chrome grill for 9 years and this never happened. I looked around online and the grill costs over $400.

Does anyone know if there is a way to fix this? Say a chrome shop or something? Or am I stuck replacing the whole grill? For $400 and change, I don't really know if it is worth it, but then again I hate to have a relatively new nice truck and have things like this be broken on it.

Thanks

my 2006 grille is doing this as well, all along the top. Not sure what I am going to do about it.

Try a custom car or motorcycle shop. Just had some plastic pieces from a Suzuki project done in blue chrome, turned out very beautiful. Cost around 250 bucks. Not sure what the price would be for a Ford grill.

The chrome plating separating from the plastic on the passenger side is being caused by heat coming from the intercooler tube just behind the grill.

My neighbor and at least 3 others are having the same problem. They are in the process of contacting Ford to see if they will do anything about it. It is deninitely a design flaw.

We have a 2009 F350 and have had the grill replaced twice. Great to see they addressed the issue :S

The 05-up grille is crap. Everyone loves that design and the swap to the older trucks is common. It may look nice when new, but those grilles age poorly with chrome plating issues and due to the fact the the Ford emblem is painted on, it fades out and washes off. I guess one could get some clear film to apply over the emblem to slow the fading, but not much can be done with the bad plating.
