I have a regular cab long bed 2003 Ford F-250 4x4 with a 5.4 and a 6sp manual. All of a sudden today I don't have brake lights. I get power at the brake switch, so I moved to the back or the truck. At the harness where it splits out for the trailer harness I don't have anything for the brake lights, but at the other connector that looks like it is for the tail lights and backup lights ect. I get power. But when I pulled out the tail lights and tested there I don't have any power.
Clear as mud???
I don't understand why I can only get a feed from one of the three different places I checked on the rear end. Is there a common place that I am not seeing that gets pinched or lots of corrosion?
Thanks,
Robert
Maybe a problem with the trailer connector? I believe you can completely disconnect the trailer harness and plug the tail light harness directly into the harness that comes from the front of the truck. See if that fixes the problem.

that is not an option, but thanks.....
Also My brake controller (for trailer brakes) works fine if that makes any difference...
I seem to be getting power through the brake switch as well. I also tried a known good spare brake switch that I have laying around with no change.
I checked the the electrical connections that are right in front of the gas tank along the frame rail and they seemed really good w/ no corrosion. Keep the ideas coming!!!
thanks,
Robert
If the rear turn signals are working, the third brake light is working, but the other brake lights are not working, I would guess the turn signal switch is bad.
The brake and turn signals at the rear use the same wires and bulbs. So it the turn signals are working, the wires and lights are working and the problem is not anywhere rearward.
The most likely problem is the multi-function switch. I do not believe it is terribly expensive nor difficult to replace.
I'm gonna plead ignorance here. By multi-function switch, do you mean the turn signal and windsheild wiper/washer control switch that's in the steering column???
thanks,
Robert
