Hi Deadeye,
The Journey is what is called a timed brake controller. The longer your foot is on the pedal, the more amps it pumps to your brakes, independent of the motion of your truck. Ride the brakes and the controller kicks in and continues until you take your foot off the stop pedal. It provides trailer braking at a modest price point.

The less modestly priced controllers have what is called an accelerameter. They match amp output to the rate at which you truck is stopping. Ride the brake, no matter how long, and trailer braking does not increase. Hammer the pedal and the trailer brakes slow the trailer in line with the truck. Trailer braking is virtually seamless.

At the highest end, with controllers like a Hayes G2 you get a digital readout, trailer braking forward and reverse, and a load of built in troubleshooting. No need to level the controller. Plug the controller harness into your truck, slap it in place and go.

As with everything, if you want more, you pay more - but they all work!

Hi Deadeye,

If you haven't tried it, you may want to give it a try first. There are a ton of them out there and a lot of folks are using them with no problem. They are reliable and last a heck of a long time, so if there are things you need first, you certainly can move a new controller down the priority list.

this is true, i need to get it tweeked in a bit, i took it out once before on a short trip but i had some other probs at the time(steering box), so maybe it needs a second chance. i think the anti-sway bar might be number one on the list.
