2005 f250 SD, has no upfitter switches or brake controller, got one at a JY found all the info on install and wiring for switches but a little unclear on the brake controller, is it plug and play?
I bought a Ford factory trailer brake controller for a 2013 F150. Pretty much plug & play, but a dealer has to reflash the truck's computer. I see your truck is older, but I would check into it.
There are 2 different master cylinders used. One for the controller module and one without. SO, although the wiring pigtails are there, it wont work without the correct master cylinder. An aftermarket electronic module will work.
The ford controller is well worth the money in its operation if you decide to invest in it.
I thought so, which is why I did it with the last F150 I owned. They function great and they're made to be there in the dash. Much nicer appearance than most aftermarkets I've seen.
I don't know why I didn't order my truck with one...now its going to cost me.

I found online Ford places that were much cheaper than the closest Ford store for the part. Should be able to pop it in yourself and just have them do the reflash. Unless of course you have the master cylinder issue mentioned in previous posts.
I can't for the life of me figure out why the brake controller is not standard on these trucks. Its a SD not a focus. People buys these trucks to use. Then they only would have to make one master cyl. You think it would save them money and time on the line.

Ya I would have to get a new master cylinder....

^^ I agree.
The cost for the tb controller on the option sheet is reasonable, and as posted, it means Ford could get by with only using one master cylinder.
