Any cutting I do like that I use a very thin metal cutting blade on my 5" grinder. If I need to cut in a tight space I will use a blade that is about half work down.
I used a dremel with cut off wheels to get close. Then used the sanding drum to make it smooth and easy to work on and not get cut. Worked well but ate cutting discs.
Grinder seemed a little to powerful for where your cutting. I know you could but I was like rather be safe since tight area and easier to cut than replace.
Thanks I need to find a dremel that will work mine doesn't have enough torque to cut the doors.
I used the corded harbor freight dremel tool (like 15 bucks) with dremel cut off discs. Lowes/Home Depot sell a nice dremel brand kit with the cutting discs and sanding drums for like $10
It worked great, I took my time and made sure to mark the pattern with a sharpie and check twice before making any cuts. Then just used the sanding drums to finish the round corners and filed the edges a little to just to make sure it was nice and smooth so I would not cut myself while installing the plate.
