when i was a kid we camped in my grandads tent, very similiar. i would have done the armed forces thing but im blind in one eye sooo, the military doesnt like me
my dad kept me out of the military-I wanted to enlist -he said he would kick my butt
think the Vietnam war sickened him-he was WWII
said it was a shame how the Vietnam war went
he was old blood and guts-never say never and die before giving up
well he was in the infantry part of General Pattons tank brigade
At the time ( right out of high school, my thinking was, I can't fly, I'm not a bird. That ruled out the Air Force. I swim like a rock, straight to the bottom, so that rules out the Navy. Marines? Their motto is " Who wants live forever ". That left the Army. After having been there & done that, shoulda went Air Force. They have more than just pilots & get treated much better ( or at least they did ). When I was in Germany & had a run to Frankfurt or one that went by, I always went to Rhine-Mein Air Force Air Base for chow.
yeah my pops enlisted in the navy-but he was colored blind so the voluntold him to the army

That could have had something to do with it Jr. My dad was in the coast gaurd in the 70s and a chunk of the 80s before he was honorably discharged.
well towards the end of the vietnam war- they sent me a draft notice to register -never seen my old man so upset in all my life
he told me I was not going to fight in that war-and I do believe he meant every word
he probably did Jr. My dad was on several different cutters while he was serving. One of them is preserved as a museum ship now. He was stationed on that cutter when they had their radar fail, so they put into boston. Unfortunatly steam powered vessels dont like strong currents too much and they took out a brand new dock with the bow of the boat. so someone took a damage control mat painted it red and stuck it out the whole in the bow.
