Devon these are pretty much the tents we use in my reenacting group.

my personal modern day tent only takes me 10 minutes by myself and it is a rather large tent at 12'x10'

Devon that is a typical privates tent. there would be 6 privates in that tent. 2 corporals would also fit in that tent or 1 sgt. after the sgt you move up in tent size to where 2 Lts would share a rather spacious marquee tent, or 1 captain, a col would have two marquee tents one for his office and one for his dining and sleeping quarters, and a general would have three marquee tents, one for his office, one for his dining room, and one for his bedroom.

the marquee tent is in the center of the pic Devon.

Okay, I'll show my age again. Back in my days.....Seriously, when I was in the army, we didn't have anything that big for personal use ( Okay, I don't know about the officers ). We each were issued what was called a " shelter half " with our field gear, along with ½ set of poles & pegs. You & some other guy would put yours together & sleep in that.

Pat the marquees were reserved for officers with a rank of Lt or higher. the wedges are for sgts or lower. I also forgot that since most of the ncos and privates were farmers they also had to bring their families with them. so the wife and kids would get to sleep under the supply wagons at the rear of the camp where it was safe.

That it is Jr. I have only been reenacting for 10 plus yrs now. Devon I bet you that the groups we portray would take you in as a soldier. the only real requirement back then to join the military was to have two opposing teeth if you only had one tooth you were told to join the navy. Jr the average food ration for a kid back then that was following his father around the war was a single quarter pound hamburger from Mcdonalds without cheese. And that was for the whole day.

At the time ( right out of high school, my thinking was, I can't fly, I'm not a bird. That ruled out the Air Force. I swim like a rock, straight to the bottom, so that rules out the Navy. Marines? Their motto is " Who wants live forever ". That left the Army. After having been there & done that, shoulda went Air Force. They have more than just pilots & get treated much better ( or at least they did ). When I was in Germany & had a run to Frankfurt or one that went by, I always went to Rhine-Mein Air Force Air Base for chow.
