Why does the Dodge 8.0L V10 get such a bad wrap?

Since when is that the overall consensus?
People with other trucks might claim that, but how many Triton V10 owners are unhappy with them based on power?

I would say its less than 5% from most of the posts in the V10 forum.

Your Dodge V10 is very close to the PI 2V V10 as far as power goes. The 3V Triton V10 would trash it.

I really like the chevy 8.1 and dodge V10, just not the trucks they come in.

The Ford V10 is almost an antique.
Its based off an engine that first hit the showroom floor 21 years ago in the Lincon towncar

Viper was released in 91. The Truck V10 did not show up until 94.

The viper engine was conceived as a 5.9 with two more cylinders added. Lamborghini worked with Chrysler and did heavy modifications, recasting the block in aluminum, various internal changes, stroking it out to 8.0L.

The Truck V10 was based on the Viper V10, but cast iron, and different intake manifolds, different heads, etc..To make it cheaper, and optimized for more torque.

Like I said though, the V10s are so different than the LA/Magnum engines, they might as well be completely different families.

Though the viper did come out first, the truck engine was indeed designed first. this info is from Chrysler itself.

Dodge v10 power and reliability

I have a 1996 Dodge 3500 V10 2wd reg, cab dually. Ive had it for over two years now. I was turned on to them by a buddy who bought a 1995 4wd V10 with 188k on it and NO problems. Did great at truck pulls too! Mine has 158k on it and no rust. I pull a 53 ft flat bed gooseneck with it and she dont even squat nor have a problem with pulling 18k lbs. I work at a shop and we get alot of 5.4s and 6.8 v10, never get any Dodge v10s. Not because theyre not around because i see them. Yes she drinks the fuel but i dont regret buying it. never broke nor has ever let me down. Diesel purist can kiss my ***. I already out pulled a 95 powerstroke that has work done.

Well, alrighty then...Thanks for resurrecting a long-forgotten zombie thread just to try to start an argument on your very first post on the FTE. It speaks highly of your character...

No, it's because they're not around. Low demand. Low sales. A big pig compared to the Triton V10. And I like Dodge.

I'm glad they aren't wanted because I bought our 99 2500 QC 4x4 V-10, 5sp with 72,000 original miles off the original owner for $5500. I pull a close to 10,000# TT.
So for me it was a no brainer. I have owned it a year no issues. I get 10-12 mpg empty & 6-8 towing our TT.
