Finally did it but the o-ring on the 90 elbow was completely destroyed. I didn't replace simply because I didn't have one on hand. Will it cause any problems? I simply ran 1" ID hose to the back of the fuel tank and capped off with a 1" PVC plug. Looking for filter element but autozone was soldout.
BTW, 05 f350, coolant filter, high idle mod, everything else stock. What's next for the Road Hog??
Assuming I read this correctly, it needs to breathe. You don't need the cap on the end of the vent hose, it is ok to vent to the atmosphere. I've seen CCV's get plugged with mud on heavy equiptment and it will barely run.
I'm going to do some type of CCV mod soon. Still debating on whether to just vent to the atmosphere or install a filter and run back in to the intake. I've read a lot about it, but still can't decide.
i ran a length of 3/4 hose to the left rear spring shckle on my 04 and havent seen a drop of oil yet. if youre worried about the o-ring on the fitting that goes into the valve cover i wouldnt be.with 1' hose youll have no restriction there what so ever.the whole point of doing this mod is to get it out of the intake, dont run it back to it. go right to atmosphere with it.if youve got the end of the hose capped off un-cap it. after re-reading yours and d8's post it sounds like youve capped the 1' hose end.
A stealthy delete that quietly (using black hoses, etc.) at a point that is not clearly visible, with a 2 way valve (choose air filter vs. hose to rear of vehicle), is a much better choice.
You can always switch it to the air cleaner for the smog guy.... OR... even if you are caught on a surprise... you can hope they didn't look too hard.
Mine ends after the fuel tank, mostly because I'm lazy. Too much effort to filter it and run back to intake. If they ever get that picky w/emissions here, maybe then I'd do the loop with the filter. I know the guys that inspect it, they don't even care that it doesn't have a cat. They say" diesels don't need cats, right?" I say "Dang skippy!"
That stinks. Where are you from anyway? Your profile only says "USA" or something like that? Just curious, since its that cold there and colder North of ya, I want to make sure my butt stays away from there, lol!
Can someone school me on this mod.
I've been thinking of doing this mod for some time now. I'm just concerned about evacuating the engine without any suction.(I.E. intake sucking the pressure out)
Is it really needed....or can you just leave it open to the atmoshere via an open hose or filter element and that would be enough to evac the crank case pressure?
Hope I'm making sense here.
You don't need a filter, you can just leave it open to vent to atmosphere. Thats what I did. I think some guys do the loop with the filter to be more environmentally friendly. I applaud that, however mine doesn't really disperse that much oil and I let it warm up in the garage for 5-10 min before I leave for work and I see nothing on the concrete floor. You are really just doing your truck a favor by not running the oil thru the intake, turbo, intercooler and piping, etc...Its not a hard job, I think it took me 1/2 hr to 1 hr, IIRC.
EDIT: Bismic, you have quicker typing fingers than me!
