There are some exhaustively detailed threads on the HAMB about who drops axles and how. The guy in OK (Sid) and the guy in AZ are both mentioned in one of them.
I asked my friend who is a neighbor of Sidss in Guthrie, here is his response.
"Absolutely, I've been in his shop and watched him do it. The day I went to the shop it was pretty warm outside and was really hot in the little room where he works. He uses a torch with a really big rosebud tip and has a fixture to use as a template for the bends."
there's been mixed reviews on the use of mono's, Obviously, the threat of breaking one will leave one stranded, however, how many broken springs do you really see??? we aren't driving these trucks off road. I run mono's on the rear...so far I like them...I've considered putting Mid 50's new reverse eye mono w/ the hole placed forward for wheel centering...and running forward stablizing bars to eleviate bounce...sure you can run a drop axel, and remove springs or IFS,...i guess it depends what your wanting...
I'm posting this just to clear up any misunderstanding and no hijack of this thread is intended. I placed my order with Dave Mann Dec, 10th and just got a call from Sid asking me about my order. So bottom line is SID is the Man... He's the one reforming the axles. Just thought you should know.
Here's the best wrrite-up I've seen, by a spring manufacturer. Some will say they have a jaundiced view since they sell regular springs, I don't think so, but make your own mind up.
This thread a bit old, but IMHO, removing leafs and mono shocks are out for me. I put a set of Posie super slide springs ( just two leafs). The ride is some much better.
