I've got a '72 F350 crew cab that has severe rust on the passenger side of the cab. But only at the drip rail (why I have no idea since it's a California truck born and raised). The rail itself from the front of the front door about to the middle of the rear door is in some places completely gone, and in others is bubbled severely. The rust continues up the side of the roof about an inch or so as well. Is there a place to get a rail section to replace this area, or will it take custom sheet metal work to rebuild the rail? I'm not building a show truck, but I would like it to haul my camper in style for a few years without raining on my wife's head.
Thanks a lot for any info.
You should be able to find a cab with rotted floors and corners that you wouldnt mind cutting up for the parts you need. This is not a real common rust area on these cabs, so a donor shouldnt be a problem. Maybe post on the classifieds for this piece. Someone in the US has to have a junk cab tthat they will cut for you and send your patch panel.
I just found out the hard way about drip rail replacement. It is no walk in the park. The roof skin has to be removed in order to replace them correctly. I have the intention of cutting the roof off and putting a new roof back on. Good luck in whatever you decide.
Thanks for the info. It's a bit depressing to find out, but at least better than going in blind. I think I'll try the classifieds and see what comes up before I decide how to start.
