I have a F-250 6.0 turbo diesel 2004. when the truck is cold it starts just fine. when you get on the gas it has no power and blows not black but close to it smoke out the tail pipe. it also as just shuts off on me and died and wont start back up untill the engine is cold. any thought would really be helpfull.. ohh and the truck has 140k miles on it.. please help!!!! thanks
dummy plug where would that be? and what should i do? i have changed the fuel filters and they were pretty dirt but i guess i am asking what would be your next step? thanks for your help
well the first thing to do is to figure out if it's fuel or oil causing the now start( injectors run on oil pressure) when you have a no start and you try cranking it does your oil gauge more or does it stay at zero? if it stays at zero it's more then likely an oil issue. the dummy plugs are on your oil rail under the valve covers the plugs at the front are dummy plugs the ones in back actually supply oil they also have o-rings so you would have to check them also.
after I figured out there was a lack of oil pressure I would pull the sensor on the passenger valve and screw in a fitting and apply air pressure to find the leak( shop air is fine) once narrowed to a side I'd pull that valve cover or if coming from the stc fitting I'd pull the HP oil pump under the turbo
WELL THE TRUCK DOES START BUT ONLY WHEN THE TRUCK HAS BEEN SITTING FOR AN HOUR OR SO. IT ALSO STAYS RUNNING AND WHEN IT GETS WARM IT WILL BOGG DOWN AND SHUT OFF AND THEN IT WILL NOT START BACK UP....
it still sounds like a hp oil leak, your best bet is to apply air pressure to icp sensor fitting and listen, you could also go ahead and replace the ipr valve, and it wouldn't hurt to replace the stc fitting
the fuel filters would cause it not to start hot and cold so I doubt that, but if it's been awhile and they are dirty replace both the filters just be sure to use ford filters
i replaced both fuel filters and they were pretty dirty and the last time i did my oil change was 2500 miles ago and i use rotella 5w40... told it was the best for it... does anyone have any website to show me where i can find all these parts on the motor... the oil level is just below the max line on the dipstick..
