IPR Question

Hey guys! I have a 97 F350 and I've been experiencing this exact hot starts problem for the last 8 months or so. It only has an issue starting when it's warm and sitting for a few minutes and i go to start it but once it gets going it runs pretty well down the road.

Today I returned to the truck after several short trips and the engine was definately hot. it had the same problem but as i started to back out the driveway it sputtered and died and then woudn't restart. i'm thinking, based on all of the responses to this type of problem, that all i need to do is replace my IPR o-rings.

I just have a simple question to all of you who have had sucess with this fix. If the o-rings are bad, does the IPR leak oil into the valley? or is it just an issue of leaking air into the HPOP that causes it to have trouble attaining the required pressure to run the injectors? i have had the fuel bowl off recently to replace my fuel pump and did not have any oil in the valley and to this day, the valley is dry.

I did have a contribution test done on Friday and all injectors passed.

Any help would be appreciated.

by the way, should i expect to be able to drive it to work tomorrow or do you think it will die going down the road when it gets this bad?

Thanks!

Question

Now it won't start at all!!

Now my truck is halfway out of my driveway and it's not firing at all. Cranks fast and for a long time to no avail. i replaced the #2 relay with the #3 relay and that did nothing for me either.

Anyway, can anyone tell me if the IPR will leak oil into the valley if the orings are bad? my valley is dry and so is the IPR.

Anyone?

Thanks! That's wonderful to know. How do you recommend draining the HPOP reservoir prior to removing the IPR? or do i just have to deal with oil going everywhere?

Thanks i'm going to get them from Replacement O-rings for Ford Diesel Engines unless you know of a place to get them for less than $22.

I feel bad asking so many questions but do you think that if the oring or orings are bad that it wouldn't start altogether?

check with your local international dealer, they will have the kit cheaper and they can get you a little boot for the connector
