A different hot start problem

Unlike other posts about the IPR, my '95 PSD wouldn't even crank when hot. On a hot day I started it and drove it 50 feet to the boat ramp, and shut it off. Loaded my raft gear into the back and tried to start it - nothing but the click of the solenoid. Third time it started, and I drove another 100 feet to get off the ramp and shut down to secure the load. It wouldn't start for the next rest of the night, I would wait and try for the next 4 hours - nothing but a click. That night I topped off the batteries where the water had become low and left it to cool overnight.

The next morning it started right up, drove 40 minutes to home, and after shutting down it it started right up again. Next day I drove it around about 10 minutes without stopping and it started again after shutting down.

Could it really have been the battery, or do I have an intermittent GPR or some other sensor problem that is going to bite me again sometime soon?

Get under the truck and check for loose or bad wires on the starter. Could also be a bad starter solenoid, passenger side fender. The starter also has a solenoid that could be going bad. Bet it's just a bad connection in that area.

Interesting on the starter idea. I thought it may be the solenoid on the fender so I tried crossing that with a screwdriver - still nothing. But I'll start driving it again and keep a hammer handy for the starter if it happens again.

I should mention while using your FORD wrench (hammer) you will need someone to turn the key at the same time.
