have a question. I dont know much about these engines but have a built a LSX engine. I found a 460 block and heads on cragslist for what I say to be pretty cheap. All he knows is the block is from a 70's era van and has d3ve a2a heads. block has been hot tanked and magnafluxed. says it is all good. would this be a good platform for a light duty street pulling truck with 35's? Thanks for all the help guys
well, i pulled 10,000 lbs 80 mph down the interstate no problem, and through stop and go traffic no problem. im guessing that motor is a little warmer than my stock, 150,000 mile motor too. so, you decide.
from what ive heard, and if im remembering correctly, the d3ve heads are the best heads ford ever put on the 460. with some porting, and that planned stroker kit, youll have one mean, pullin machine for sure. just be sure not to under-cam it or youll have a beast without enough brains to make any power. if your usin it for pullin trailer on the highway, i would recommend an aggressive RV cam.
no, you WOULDNT need a different set of heads. those are very good, and rather hard to find, again, if my memory is serving me. hes askin $75 for those heads? jump on it. he doesnt know what hes got, and if he did, hed probably ask more along the lines of $3 or 400 per head.
Go to the link crazyredneck pointed you to. You will get better informed information there. There is nothing special or rare about D3VE heads. They were the stock 460 head from 1973 for several years. While you might not be getting took, $75 isn't a swinging deal.

if the d3ve heads are so common, which ones are the ones that are so rare and sought after?? and im not talkin the boss heads, everyone know about those.
and if a solid, dipped block and heads for $75 isnt a great deal, please, do tell us why as individual parts, each would be sold for several hundred dollars a piece by distributors. and what WOULD be a great deal then? i for one would ask a lot more than $75 for just the block.
not tryin to be an A-hole, but i am seriously curios for an answer.
