Does anyone know how to get the wheel retainer nut loose inside the automatic hubs?? I am torn apart in the shop and can't seem to figure it out. I do have the lock off, of course I broke it.
Means I broke the key I think I have to go junkyard shopping for one or switch to manual lockouts which i can't afford now. I was told they don't make that part anymore.
is the tang out of the slot? most of the broken ones I deal with it is still in there, if it is pick it out with forceps and remove the nut. if it is out the nut should come off.
the lock is a dealer item, around $100.00 for the service kit, and it only comes in the service kit.
ok from re-reading your post again it sounds like you only took 1/2 of the auto hub out. did you remove the big snap ring on the outer side of the hub?
with the auto lock removed you remove the nut with a spindle socket.
ok I have racked my brain ( I toss the auto hubs when I remove them so I don't deal with them every day)
outboard of the nut (between the nut and the auto hub is the cam) cup shaped washer with gears in it! pull it out and the nut is under it!
I have removed the snap ring, spacers, and cam assembly. The piece I broke is the "C" clip that locks the nut in and the piece is out right behind the cam. The nut seems to be stuck and I was wondering if there is any trick to get it off. I'll go try again this morning.
Do you know for sure I can get service kits for these? I stopped at the closest ford dealer I have (parts guy is kind of an idiot) and he said that part is discontinued and can't be bought anymore.
Ya I finally figured it out. I got the nut off. I feel pretty stupid now that I got it apart. Thanks for the number for the kit. Does it come with a new nut too? I kinda buggered mine up screwing around if not I'll try to find one.
sorry for the delay, I was gone all day and not on the shop
the kit p/n is F6TZ-1K106-BB, it does not have the nut! it has the lock, snap rings, 2 steel and one fiber washer. the o ring and a new 4X4 sticker.
list price is $90.18
my cost was $56.57

Thanks Bart. Once I figured out what the #$% I was doing for sure it only took about 15 minutes to take the other side apart. Rotor and pads replaced and back together with no issues on that side.
