1992 Ford Bronco Automatic Locking Hubs

I own a 1992 EB Ford Bronco with automatic locking hubs and I need help with 2 issues.

Issue #1 - I originally decided that instead of getting hosed at the local brake shop, I would attempt to do the front brakes on my own last week. Well my Bronco is still sitting in my driveway because when I try to remove the retainer ring by closing the ends with a needle nose plier while pulling the hub lock from the wheel hub, I can't get the hub lock body assembly out? I tried lining up the teeth inside and when I squeeze the retainer ring, I can see it moving but it will not come out. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Issue #2 - I have decide that since I have the brake system almost apart, I would like to use a manual locking hub but can anyone tell me exactly what manufacturer makes the conversion kit and will it work with my truck?

Any suggestions will help, thank you
Alexander

Wmakes a manual hub conversion. Check on eBay, I saw some tonight.

As far as the other hub goes, the retainer ring is the only thing holdingit in, you just have to remove the little metal clip-spacer thing that goes on top of it, then squeeze the ring and pull it out. At least that's the way I remember it for my '89. Sorry if that's not much help, I had to work a while to get it out as well. Good luck!

The three manufacturers of manual hubs are Milemarker, Superwinch and Warn. All are good. A '92 should only need the hubs and not the spindle nut conversion. Unless your stock hubs have three capscrews, you don't need the extra conversion kit.

When removing the old ones, using needle nose pliers, they came right out with no problems.

I am not sure what your hubs look like but.... on mine, there is a clip ring in the center, AND... a ring that sits in a grove against the hub surface itself. (Inside the hub against the outer surface.) Real pain to see, especially if there is still grease in there. Takes a jewelers flat screwdriver to start one end out, then you can just grab it and take it out. Not a real strong ring but it is small and unless its removed, nothing much will come out. Hope this helps.

Retainer Ring

I would agree with Billybob 69. Seems your '92 is the same as my '82 manual hubs.

First time I did it took me forever to figure it out. Couldn't even see it because of the grease packing. Now I just use an ice pick to pull one end up and the rest follows.
