My automatic hubs on my 1992 f250 are worn out. I'm looking to replace with manual hubs. The mile marker hubs oreillys gave me were to small in diameter. I can't find the replacement hubs I need. Any advice on finding the correct hubs? Thanks
What did you find? Blew a hub apart today and my truck is stranded at a friend's house til I get parts. The mile markers are in stock everywhere and a hundred less than Warn.
F-250s could have either a Dana 44HD or a Dana 50 front end. If you got hubs that are too small you probably got the 44HD hubs but you have a 50. The Dana 50 uses the same hubs as the F-350s Dana 60.
The conversion kit is basically new spindle nuts (along with new hubs). You need the special spanner wrench for them, and to know the retorque specs. The wrench is maybe $25 at NAPA (or wherever). You might also be able to borrow or rent one from a auto parts store.
If you have the 6 bolt hubs, no conversion kit needed. Just slap them on and go. If you have the 3 bolt hubs, you will need the kit and follow the instructions.
Since I've got your guys attention on this old thread...
My outer spindle nut is trashed and has only 3 of the 4 thingy things the special socket is supposed to fit into. Luckily my hub fell off and I was able to remove that nut with a hammer and chisel. Tomorrow I plan to replace the hub locker and wheel bearings/seal on that side with w/e is in stock at one of the local stores. But I need a new spindle nut and don't want to spend $120 on the conversion kit.
Is there another spindle nut I can use? The local stores don't offer anything. I won't have time to hit a junkyard after work. And I fear the spare 50 with seized lockers, and the 60 in my garage will be in as bad shape. I'm willing to get the warn premiums over the mile marker hubs, but I would not like to make it a $400 day if I can avoid it.
In case anyone needs the spindle nuts, they are discontinued by Ford and Dorman. There's ONE in Whitehall, PA at the Ford dealer lol.
After a hundred phone calls today back and forth to Napa, Advance, Auto Zone, Pep Boys, and a handful of independent parts and 4x4 places, I found the Warn conversion kit from $95-120, and the Mile Marker conversion kit for about $78 at an Advance. The latter seems to be more available as most of the big places have all but quit dealing with Warn.
These kits contain inner and outer spindle nuts and the holey washer thingy for both sides of the truck. Of note is that these are for the 30 spline axles while the 19 spline axle's nut kits are even more readily available.
The only place with Warn premium hubs on hand in Southeast Pennsylvania wanted $305 for the pair and $105 on the nuts. Said goodbye to those fellas in a hurry.
Did end up grabbing the 449 S/S mile marker hubs and 95-32721(pretty sure) nut kit at Advance, along with the two and three fifths socket to fit my one ton nuts. Also picked up inner and outer bearings and wheel seals from Autozone. All based on who could get what today. Albeit a little late to get started on replacing parts tonight. I'm about $325 into it all with the socket($20).
Ok. Having a problem here. I lost motivation when my ipad could no longer access the site, and it's a pita on my phone. My only 2 options. So, I got back out to do the 2nd hub locker and the bearings today. The first one went about as beautifully as it could for starting with a destroyed hub. This one, big problem. I can NOT get the outer spindle nut off. It's soaking in PB right now. I've tried a propane torch and pb a few times, but I had to walk away for a bit.
I can be done in 30 minutes after this nut is off. Does anyone have any suggestions?
The first side was so easy because with the poor condition, the rotor came off the spindle AROUND the spindle nuts. And I was able to hammer/chisel the nut off from that side. I know this is basically all my fault. I'm an idiot for not doing this the first year I owned the truck.
Waiting on a much larger compressor and stronger impact gun to arrive. As well as an electric impact gun for good measure. Last option before trying to rob a decent spindle from the garage will be to get in there with a dremel and try to ream my way through the outer spindle nut in a couple spots and chisel it off. I'll be back!
Went straight for the Ryobi 18 volt lithium ion impact gun when it got here. Zipped that nut right off. No real damage inside and the bearings were, smoothish. Replaced it all. Still getting some noise from the front end when turning right. I'm certain the wheel won't fall off now though.
Just FYI to all, Jeff's Bronco Graveyard has conversion kits and Mile Marker hubs. That's where I got all my stuff and I would definitely do business again. Was pleased with the MM hubs, wasn't gonna pay the extra for Warn. Never blew one up, and I actually off-roaded my old truck.

That's where I got mine. I have their "premium" hubs, which includes a metal lock ****. MM's basic cheap hubs have (or at least had when I bought them many years ago) a plastic locking ****.
I keep the plastic ones as spares, and run the premiums without any issues.
