timing check help needed

I want to check the timing on my 95 f150 5.0. I know about the spout connector process, and what the specs are supposed to be if it needs adjusted. I am having a problem getting the timing light in a good position to read the numbers on the balancer. I can see the hole in the tab,but can't get a good angle to read the numbers because the alternator and smog pump are in the way. any ideas are welcomed!! thanks.

The hole in the tab is not what you use. That was a mounting hole for the old Crank Position Sensor that used the EEC III Ignition System.

You use the straight edge pointer. Mark 10 BTDC with white paint or white out before you try to check it.

Bill,a pointer like that is what I was looking for, like all the other engines I have timed. Where is the pointer in relation to the tab with the hole in it?
