NEW BED

I AM LOOKING AT PUTTING A NEW BED ON MY 74 F-250 4X4. CAN ANYONE TELL ME WHAT YEARS WILL MATCH? ARE THE 4X4 AND 4X2 BEDS DIFFERENT OR CAN THEY BE INTERCHANGED?

a bed from a pickup from 73-77 will fit, as long as it is the same length as yours and the hole(s) for the gas filler neck is in the same location. 4x4 or 4x2 doesn't matter. The only other exception is certain F-250 and 350 models that had the rear axle located further towards the rear of the frame ( camper specials, etc.)

78-79 should fit, also. They will have the doors covering the gas fillers,though.

I just replaced mine this weekend I have a 4X4 79 and took a bed off a 2 WD with no problems, all the holes lined up it was an easy project. Much cheaper than the body work!

I believe that the 73-76 3/4 tos had a narrower frame than th 1/2 tons measure the distance between the mounting holes (width) other than that and the camper special 1 tons. they are the same body lines. my bed has holes drilled in it where it used to be on a differant truck that had a narrower frame.

Scott could you bed have come from a 4X4? That frame is narrower.

I am sorry I didn't specify. the '73-'76 F250 4X4 beds are narrower than the others. and yes the bed was previously on a F250 4X4 that was pre-77 I have a '78 F250 and it has the wider frame.

Does anyone know of a good place to get a used truck box for a 78 f-150. I live in Canada so i would have to find out about shiping( that might be costly though)

Does anyone know of a good place to get a used truck box for a 78 f-150. I live in Canada so i would have to find out about shiping( that might be costly though). Or can you make a wooden bottom for an exsisting box?, and how would i go about doing that?.
