Turbo Day
Turbo Day
I've been slowly and carefully building up the giant pile of parts behind my tool box... and the last box finally arrived from UPS yesterday. (My UPS guy may get a Christmas card from me at this point - especially as far as he lugged my MBRP exhaust up the side walk... not realizing there was a garage door on the other side of the building.) At any rate... today is the day... and I'm finally installing everything in my sig... except the cupholders... so if anyone has an extra set of the better cup holders... :-)
Pic of all my goodies - I started about half an hour ago, not including cleaning up the garage - so I'm excited to see how long all this takes me.
DP Tuner
Stage 2 Single Shot Injectors
Garrett 38R Ball Bearing Turbo
Riffraff FRx
6637 w/ Pete's cover and Riffraff logo
MBRP 4" turbo back exhaust
IC boots
International bellowed up pipes
upgrading from early 99 to post 99.5 spyder and pedestal
Should be enough to keep me busy for a little bit. First two things I noticed.... 1) The 6637 is HUGE compared to the little stock filter. Pictures do not do it justice. 2) The garrett 38R is HUGE compared to the cute little turbo that comes stock on a 7.3. I don't expect this set of tires to hang in as long as they might have with the little turbo.

My thanks in advance to Clay, pop, the whole Socal chapter and anyone else who's helped me get to this point. Let's hope it's mostly installed before my wife gets home.
More pics to follow and I'll eventually have a full write up together for anyone who's considering any of these mods. I have to say - saving the parts up to do this all at once should make life a lot easier than taking everything a part 3 or 4 times.... not to mention how different that first ride is going to be.

Holy cow man!!! That'll take some time to do it all, but it'll definitely be worth it!! You'll have a brand new truck once you're done!
The only drawback of doing it all at once, that I see, is if something isn't working right, there's so many variables that you just added, it'll be a little harder trying to figure it out.
Good luck, have fun, and take youre time and do it all right!
While you're under the valve covers, be sure to re-torque the rocker arms. Also, may be a good time for new glow plugs, since you'll probably be pulling them out to evacuate the cylinders after the injector change.
Keep us updated on the progress!

thanks man, any idea what the torque specs are for the rocker arms?
Almost did the glow plugs too - but talked to the guy at ford who said the most common glow plug failure is actually the wiring under the valve cover on the 7.3. Supposedly the glow plugs themselves rarely fail. (ran up close to the edge of my budget, and decided that since it's usually sunny in Socal, that'd be a reasonable place to cut cost)

Thanks guys. Technically, everything except the exhaust and turbo can be considered preventative maintenance... with a bit of enthusiasm. It helps that this is something i've been building up to for about 6 mos, not to mention how much work i've done on her car recently.
Communication is the key to a happy marriage. The trick is being careful about what you communicate, how much you communicate (sometimes, less is more...) and what light you shine on that which is being communicated.
Thanks Clay. Talk about customer service.

you're the first person to catch that. I'll fix it tonight or tomorrow when i post pics.
Ok, we need some progress pics here....
