they're a pain, but not that bad to do if you have any mechanical skills at all.just get the valve covers exposed really well and you should have no problem.check the tech folder, lots of good info there.

Hello, I had a problem with my 06 surging while on cruise control(which I didn't see anything written about cruise). I was running rotella and was told that the rotella does something like letting air mix with it and caused it to surge. I switched to motorcraft oil and the problem went away. Like I said, I think my issue was only with cruise engaged(it was a while ago). Your injector #4 I feel should be changed. I never had any luck with running cleaner through it. I am sure somebody will object to this but I got hooked up with someone in AZ through ebay that would sell me injectors for $80(actually 100 but he credited me 20 for my cores). They were the same condition the dealer gets(I think he has a hookup at a dealer). The brown paper wrapped around it looked like it had never been unwrapped, and it was in the stock cardboard box. I could also buy the orings and copper washer on ebay to reseal all injectors while the oil rail is off. I had numerous issues with injectors in my truck's 400k miles. I just kept a little box with all the tools needed to change injectors separate and rode with an extra injector and continuously talk to my truck saying "come on injector, I dare you to blow". I think for a first timer 4 hours for the r&r sounds ok, but do it a couple times and make sure to torque everything to specs(make sure to get an in/lbs torque wrench, the rocker carrier box is aluminum and will strip) and you should get faster. I paid to have many injectors replaced before I just couldn't justify it anymore. This truck tought me alot, not really because I wanted to learn, but because I couldn't afford not to learn. Oh yeah I haul campers for a living with this and average about 140k miles a year on this. I was just looking around here and saw this and thought I would throw my .02 in.

Thanks for all the help. Changed #4 injector myself took about 3 hours, not too bad. The truck runs like new. Used the information in the tech folder. Thanks again for this great site and help.

I bought the injector off ebay about 2 years ago for approximately $115. I knew one day I would have this problem. I plan on keeping the truck for a long time so i'm glad I found this site. When I removed the valve cover, right a way I knew the truck had been worked on before. The #4 injector had the white cover and the rest of the injectors had the black cover. So either the the # 4 injector had been changed before of the rest of the injectors had been changed. I bought the truck used with 100,000 miles. The truck really drives great after replacing the injector and i'm a alot more comfortable working on it. I plan doing the EGR delete next.

If you're changing GP's, 2 things: Make SURE you get the right ones. Theres 2 different lengths, and also from what I was told when Ford did mine while replacing 4 injectors, plan on buying a GP harness as the tool you need to remove it usually fouls it up anyways. IIRC it was under $100 for the harness. I'll see if I can find the receipt.
