Need help with surging
I disconnected the ebp sensor and the truck ran worse. So I pulled the egr valve which was worse then the egr valve pictures posted in a earlier post. The valve was totally covered black. Anyway, I cleaned the valve and reinstalled it. The valve appeared to be in the open postion. I have had the egr valve unplugged for over 40,000 miles. Is it possible that the valve is stuck in the open postion. How can you tell. The truck ran the same with the surging and sometimes bucking. Would the valve being stuck open cause this. Should the valve be in the closed postion when the truck is not running?
the valve should be shut ,, yes
Edit Cheezit ,, snuk in first .. I wasn't just being an echo lol
since you have the year that won't throw the cel light with the egr unpluged I would consider closing it manually and tack welding it shut

sorry but the only way I know is to buy a new one.
if you can't force it closed long enough to tack it I guess I would be looking for a used bad one that is in the proper closed position ,, even they good ( unplugged )ones can be forced open in normal running conditions fyi

Fixed the EGR valve and was able to get the truck to throw a dtc which was p0272 which is injector #4. I added a whole bottle of injector cleaner and Fords power booster to the fuel and now the truck is running ten times better, but still sometimes surges. Should I keep driving it to see if this totally rids the problem or replace the injector. While buying the power booster at Ford, I asked how much labor would cost to replace the injector. He stated first $480.00 with me providing the injector and then dropped the price to $360.00. It looks like I will be doing the work. Thanks for all the help and this great site.
you cleaned your tubo yet?.that's a free and relatively easy thing to do. the vanes could be sticking causing it to surge.also when you took the egr valve out was the bottom "saucer" on the valve off it's seat?.if you've had it unplugged for 40k miles i dont see how it could've opened up on it's own.also check for chafed wires along the valve covers. another good thing to do is the ccv re-route. i did mine for .50c. the price of a pvc plug to plug the hole in the intake tube right before the turbo.
we dont get paid by the hour we get paid by the job.
and no it does not take 6 hours to replace an injector.
it takes 4 hours to replace an injector and 2 hours to tell you it needs to be replaced.
We remember we get paid by how fast we work. so it should not take a tech that long. That means if it takes 10 hours we still get 6. if it takes 3 hours we still get 6. I dont make the rules. Im just the yes man.

I think you are missing it all together.
The time you are build has very little to do with the time it takes one to do a job.
It will take you a day or maybe longerto do a set of 8. I can do the same set of 8 by lunch.
