I considered such an arrangement as well, but then I thought who is going to crawl under there to drop the battery and hook up jumper cables should the battery go dead on a dark and rainy road. If using a location that requires awkward girations to reach I would add a HD battery quick connect plug in an acessable location and carry a set of jumper cables with a matching connector in the vehicle.

Bill, After the last couple of weeks looking at the cleaned up firewall and no battery box, I really like the cleaner look. I have a new flathead and tranny going in hopefully tomorrow, with all the new shiny parts on it, it would be a shame to cover any of it up.
