not done yet... but will reside in a homebuilt drop down battery box under the right side behind the running boards...like the drop down boxes you see in the magazines...
Personally I would not put a standard lead acid battery inside the passenger compartment or that close to electronics/electrical center. Lead acids still vent acid fumes and hydrogen gas. If you want to do so, I would used a sealed gel cell "any position" battery such as an Optima. Optima makes a 6V version that is 1/2 one of their "6 pack" (a 3 pack?) configuration. 2 of them can be run in series to give 12V in an arrangement that can fit easily behind a seat or even lying on their sides under the seats. That's what I plan on using in my panel, standing side by side located in one of the covered compartments along the wall behind the seats.
Mine is the stock location in a new drop down box.(stainless) and it is accessible through the floor cover by lifting back the carpet. I also use an Öptima battery.
Hey Julie is that a moonshine jar on the firewall?
Not at the moment, but I'm always willing to accomodate a good idea!

I was working on the firewall and cowl paint and had the battery out. I had set it back in but not engaged the strap when I took the pictures - it is a single strap and runs from firewall to the front of the box. The battery is actually very close to the lip on the top of the cowl and requires a little gentle maneuvering to get it in and out even without the strap tight fit.

Yeah, but Ilya...now Hillbilly may have a good idea, lets not be hasty!
I wonder of moonshine would clean the windshield too?!
I don't have pictures however, on my 49 I located a SS dropdown box on the passenger side approximately underneath the seat. It is just forward of the center crossmember. Note that I moved the center crossmember back about 1 ft to accomodate the AOD trans. I am going for a "clean" engine compartment but retaining the stock fuel tank and did not want it in the bed-process of elimination.
On my 49 I recessed the battery down into the bed floor on the right front side. it basically sits on top of the extra flange on the running board.
Normally this would'nt let the batter sit down far enought and it would stick up through the bed floor, but since I'm using a bed floor from a 2005 GMC that is 2" higher than the stock bed floor its not a problem.
Here is pic of cutting the access door into the bed floor;
Not mine……………………someone on this site, sorry old dead brain cells.
This is where I’m going to put mine, or if not enough room, between the bucket seats in a centre consol.

This one is mine. I have a sealed top to cover it and it will be vented through the floor. I was going to put an Optima sealed battery in this place. I called Optima and they told me their batteries emit fumes when charging just like other batteries. I could not see paying extra money for the Optima. They are very good batteries and I have never heard any complaints.
