Battery Relocation

Has anyone relocated their battery fron under the cab to inside the engine bay? I checked midfifty and google for a relocation kit but came back empty handed.

What are you looking to accomplish by relocating the battery to the engine compartment? Most people want to move it out of there for a cleaner look under the hood. You could probably use a battery tray from a 48-52 V8, which sits on the right side frame rail next to the firewall. They're available in reproduction.

battery tray

i used a battery tray for an early mustang, i think a 1970. it fit pretty well on the pass inner fender. i used a mazda miata battery to keep the weight down and it fit better. i think the tray was like $20 from mustangs unlimited.

That is a good question. WHY would you want to move it into the engine compartment?! The stock location is great. It's out of the way and nice and low for a better center of gravity. If you REALLY have to move it somewhere, then go for behind the seat with two 6 volt optimas in series. That's what the hotrod guys do to keep their engine compartments looking good. Jag

That would probably work really well and be easy.

Ditto what skuzzel_butt did except on the left side. Used a plastic tray out of a late model van - maybe Astro van - but one that was flat on the bottom - not contoured to fit it's original nook and cranny. Then I fabbed a L shaped angle iron bracket that bolted to the side of the radiator frame (officially called radiator Saddle). Turned out pretty good because the + terminal faces a wide open area between the radiator and the AC compressor and the - terminal faces the left end of the radiator. I would not like to have the + terminal close to anything it might contact and ground out.

I forget what the tray can out of. And yes, the battery is tipped off to the side.

An older shot from the side before the fender was installed.
